On the topic of Halloween, I thought you might all be interested in a recipe I found in my Nannas cookbook for Mock Brains. The idea of Mock Brains begs the question of 'WHY oh WHY'. But I digress. Was it so you could say to your husband 'It's okay dear. It's not real brains, it's just mock brains for dinner', or was it really because some folk loved brains so much that when they couldn't get them, they made something that looked and tasted like brains?
Or was it to serve to the munchkins on Halloween....mwahhahahaha.....
Here's the recipe....
To one and a half cups of oatmeal (I don't know whether this is oatmeal or rolled oats), add boiling water to cover and simmer till soft. A diced onion will improve the flavour (are you sure????). Spread in a rectangular tin and allow to cool, then cut into slices, dip in egg and breadcrumbs and deep fry. Serve with breadcrumbs and parsley.
Now, I don't know about you, but this does not inspire me to eat brains. Neither real, nor mock.
What say you ;0)
