Well, here I was thinking about how I could get out of knitting these things, much as I loved the idea.....

...when it occurred to me that I might have an old scarf that I could cut up and repurpose. So off I go to look for it.
As serendipity would have it, no scarf, but I stumbled on some socks that I hadn't used in a while, and had one of those 'Oprah Lightbulb Moments'....what if... I just put the sock on a cup instead.
Would it work? Or would the paper cup/latte glass/coffee mug just be all wonky because of the sock.
As you can see, success was obtained...this marle grey sock slipped easily onto my largest latte/hot chocolate glass, was thin enough not to make the glass 'wonky', and folded down to nearly half and was still thick enough for insulation, but not too bulky.
I hand stitched the 'wrinkles' into place to prevent the sock from bunching up under the cup and to make it look a bit neater and make it easier to use. A couple of re-purposed buttons stitched on with contrasting thread, and I have one funky Coffee Cup Cozy!
Off to find lots of socks to repurpose for Christmas gifts!
