When we moved to this area I discovered a family-run country business called THE BIG POT which sells plants at very affordable prices. Most of the plants are only $2 - they are small, but Peter Cundall always advises that buying plants small is the best way. Their fruit are dearer, they are still much cheaper than in the big nurseries. I love shopping there because the business is at the family's home and the dogs come out to greet you while the little grandchildren crawl around amongst the plants! The lady of the house is very knowledgeable about plants, and also really, really friendly. If she hasn't got the plant you want she will get it for you, or will ring you when those she is propagating are ready to be planted. She even dug some pieces of a particular plant I was looking for out of her own garden for me! I have told many of my friends and relations about this nursery, and they love it as much as I do.
No need to bargain. Because they grow most of their own plants they are able to give their customers a great deal.
