The Gepps Cross Markets are great for their fresh fruit and vegetables. They arrive direct from the growers fresh in season and best of all are at least 50% cheaper than shopping at the local green grocer even cheeper than the supermarkets. I know that it is local and seasonal. Stall holders change from week to week, it depends what they have ripe for sale.
Prices are cheap enough that I am able to make my own preserves, such as apricots $2.00 a kg (3kg makes enough jam for my family for a year). Bananas are $1.99kg whereas elsewhere is $5.00. Baby squash are $2.00 a kg and I have never seen them less than $5.00kg and never as fresh as these ones! I could go on but the list is too long!
It costs $1.50 per person to get in but this fee goes to charity. So I am not just saving on fresh fruit and veg but am helping a good cause too!
I go every Sunday as that is the only day it is open from 8am to 1pm. You can haggle with some of the stall holders but it really isn't neccesary. Prices really are so cheap. There is a lot of competition so it keeps the prices down. If you go after 12 it is even cheaper but you only have what is left.
